Common questions about Vidmatics and Samsara.
Answers from the team — installation, training, support, products, pricing, and timelines.
Installation and deployment
How long does a Samsara installation take per vehicle?
A standard vehicle gateway (VG54 or VG55) installation takes 20–45 minutes per vehicle depending on vehicle type and wiring complexity. A dual-camera install on a medium-duty truck typically runs 45–60 minutes. Vidmatics schedules installations at your facility or coordinates with mobile technicians at remote locations.
Can Vidmatics install across multiple locations?
Yes. Vidmatics coordinates national and multi-site deployments through a network of certified installation partners. We manage technician scheduling, site logistics, and quality verification centrally so you have one point of contact regardless of how many locations are involved.
What happens if a vehicle is out of service during the deployment window?
We build flex capacity into every deployment schedule. Vehicles that are unavailable during their scheduled slot are queued for a makeup install in the same week or during a dedicated follow-up day at the end of the deployment window.
Do I need to be on-site during installation?
An operations contact should be available by phone or on-site for the first batch to handle any vehicle access or configuration questions. For subsequent batches, most clients have a lead installer or fleet coordinator manage day-of logistics without requiring a senior manager present.
Products and hardware
Which Samsara products does Vidmatics sell and deploy?
Vidmatics is an authorized Samsara reseller with access to the full Samsara product catalog: AI cameras, vehicle gateways, asset trackers, environmental monitors, driver workflow devices, and the Samsara platform subscription. We can build a solution that combines multiple product types for complex fleet operations.
What is the difference between the VG54 and VG55 gateways?
The VG55 is Samsara's current-generation vehicle gateway and the standard choice for new deployments. The VG54 is the previous generation and remains in many installed fleets. Both use vehicle-specific cables, including OBD-II options for compatible light-duty vehicles and J1939 options for compatible heavy-duty vehicles. Vidmatics conducts a vehicle audit before every deployment to determine the correct gateway and cable for each vehicle.
How long do non-powered asset tracker batteries last?
Samsara specifies a typical battery life of 3–5 years for the AG51 Unpowered Asset Gateway at two check-ins per day. Actual life varies with check-in frequency, temperature, and cellular signal strength. Vidmatics sets the reporting schedule around each asset's utilization and visibility requirements during deployment.
Does Samsara work in areas with poor cellular coverage?
Samsara gateways store data locally when cellular connectivity is unavailable and sync to the platform when coverage is restored. For operations in consistently low-coverage areas, Vidmatics reviews coverage maps during pre-deployment planning and can advise on antenna configurations or alternative connectivity options.
Training and support
What training does Vidmatics provide after deployment?
Vidmatics provides role-based training for administrators, dispatchers, and safety coordinators as part of every deployment. Training covers platform navigation, report configuration, coaching score interpretation, and alert management. We also offer driver briefing support at installation time to maximize app enrollment and reduce pushback.
What happens if a device goes offline or has a hardware fault?
Vidmatics monitors device connectivity as part of ongoing account management. If a device goes offline, we diagnose whether the issue is cellular, power, or hardware-related and coordinate repair or replacement. Hardware covered under Samsara's warranty is replaced through Vidmatics at no additional charge.
How do I open a support request with Vidmatics?
You can open a support request through the Support Request form on this site, by emailing our support team, or by calling your dedicated account contact directly. Vidmatics clients have a named account manager who handles both support escalations and proactive account reviews.
Pricing and contracts
How is Samsara pricing structured?
Samsara pricing has two components: a one-time hardware cost per device and an annual per-vehicle subscription for platform access. Subscription tiers vary based on features enabled (telematics only, safety package, compliance add-ons). Vidmatics builds the complete cost model — hardware, subscription, and installation — in every quote so you see total cost of ownership before committing.
What contract lengths are available?
Samsara subscriptions are typically structured in 1-, 3-, or 5-year terms. Longer terms carry lower per-vehicle annual pricing. Vidmatics advises on term length based on your fleet's expected vehicle turnover rate and budget cycle preferences.
Can I get a quote before committing to a full deployment?
Yes. Vidmatics provides detailed quotes that include hardware, installation, and subscription costs based on your fleet size and product mix. We can also scope a pilot program for a subset of your fleet if you want to validate the platform before a full rollout.
